PORTRAIT OF THE 21ST CENTURY

On the UC Santa Cruz campus in summer 2001, two important events bring art and science together in an exploration of the challenges and opportunities in this new genetic age.

Genomic Art
Where: Baskin Visual Arts Studios, UC Santa Cruz
When: June 18 - August 27, 2001

This exhibition features work by internationally-recognized artists - Joan Fontcuberta, Susan Rankaitis, Inigo Manglano-Ovalle as well as former molecular biologist now artist Helen Donis-Keller who open paths of inquiry about genetic information and its profound implications for our lives. Through metaphor and image these artists seek to connect the human genome map to our own psychic terrain.
